JOHANNESBURG – Former South African Airways (SAA) board chair Dudu Myeni got into trouble Thursday for naming a protected witness, Mr. X, who implicated her for allegedly embezzling money from Mhlatuze Water, money that later he would go to the Jacob Zuma Foundation. .

Myeni invoked her right to remain silent on the dealings between her son and X on Wednesday, but made it clear that she never received money or gifts from former Bosasa COO Angelo Agrizzi.

Test leader Kate Hofmeyr asked Myeni: “Mr. X testified to the commission that the same day the commission first contacted his son about Premier Attraction’s deal with the company’s payment To Mr. X, your daughter received a call from you asking why Mr. X was ‘selling us’, can you confirm if he made that call?

Myeni said she did not recall making such a call.

“I don’t remember any calls like that, President.”

The commission is expected to accuse Myeni of violating its rules on the protection of witness Mr. X, but is still trying to get answers about the instructions she gave him.

“The evidence from Mr. X is that he didn’t even know that he was depositing into the Jacob Zuma Foundation bank account. Did you know that he deposited 1 million rand in the Jacob Zuma Foundation?”

Myeni refused to answer.

“President, I cannot answer this question, in case he incriminates me.”

Hofmeyr went on to question the former chairman of the board: “And then he made another deposit on February 2, 2016, in the amount of 800,000 rand to the Jacob Zuma Foundation.”

Myeni maintains that he only dealt with Bosasa CEO Gavin Watson, for which he did not receive payments of R300,000 from Agrizzi, as claimed.

Myeni said it was not true that the foundation received cash, but that businesses and individuals paid for the services or deposited into the foundation’s bank account.

Agrizzi testified that she gave Myeni R300,000 in Louis Vuitton bags every month for the former president’s foundation, but she denies this.

“President, I deny that Agrizzi has given me R300,000. I am focusing on that because it seemed that Agrizzi was right, and the sensationalization of the media was such that I received a bribe from Bosasa. It was a very big story. I don’t want us to generalize on that particular issue. ”
