Baby Marique was born prematurely at 34 weeks gestation and spent 105 days in the hospital.
He was born on June 17 by cesarean section.
According to a statement issued on behalf of the Netcare Clinton Hospital in Alberton, Gauteng, baby Marique was “diagnosed with acute, life-threatening obstructive apnea – episodes in which her breathing stopped due to collapse of the lower respiratory tract. and it had to be aired. ”
The girl’s father, the Rev. Andre Kloppers, said there were several times the family was afraid of losing her.
“So I can’t tell you how relieved and grateful we are to have her with us today,” he added.

“Some of the doctors at the hospital were deeply concerned that she wouldn’t make it, and sometimes we can’t believe she did. She is a true survivor and our little miracle.”
Kloppers thanked the hospital staff for providing her little one with “extraordinary care.”
He said:
“The doctors, nurses and other staff members were absolutely fantastic, providing us with ongoing guidance and showing the best levels of care throughout this difficult ordeal. The care my wife and Marique received at the hospital was world class and we are very grateful to all who participated. “
Dr. Ashley Jeevarathnum, a pediatric pulmonologist who directs the pediatric ICU at the hospital’s pediatric center of excellence, said that during her hospital stay, Marique won the hearts of doctors and staff members “who all wanted to celebrate her recovery. “.
According to the statement, the doctor said that the apnea was caused by obstruction and narrowing of the trachea (windpipe) because it was so flaccid due to the initial congenital malformation.

Jeevarathnum said:
I must say that Marique is exceptionally lucky to have survived. I am inclined to agree with her parents that her survival is something of a miracle and we are all celebrating her recovery.
Baby Marique’s mother received home care training.
They fed her through a feeding tube every three hours and she sleeps on oxygen support.
