JOHANNESBURG – The Hawks said they would work tirelessly to crack down on corruption as it continued to reap its ugly head in key state institutions.
Fifteen people were arrested Wednesday in an interprovincial operation that included Gauteng, Limpopo, Eastern and Free State.
The priority criminal investigation body said the cases were linked to corruption, money laundering and fraud.
This was another operation the Hawks carried out in a matter of weeks to crack down on people accused of being on the wrong side of the law.
An official at a traffic licensing center in Bloemfontein, a police officer and driving school owners were among those handcuffed in yesterday’s operation.
All of the suspects are believed to have worked together on the crime involving vehicles that were not roadworthy.
Linda Steyn from Hawk: “The Highway Accident Fund pays millions each year due to these unfit for road vehicles being made roadworthy and the car has never been seen by an official before but they are issued certificates of fit to move “.
All of the suspects will appear in Bloemfontein Magistrates Court on Friday, while three others who have been linked to the union have yet to be arrested.
