Nissan today unveiled its new Navara double cab bakkie. The bakkie, which will launch for the first time in April 2021, features several updates and improvements to take on the leaders of its segment. The new Navara builds on 80 years of experience from Nissan’s bakkie heritage and will be the automaker’s most advanced bakkie yet.

It is powered by various technologies, including Nissan Intelligent Mobility safety systems and features.

Ashwani Gupta, Nissan’s chief operating officer, said: “We packaged the new model with a full suite of advanced technologies to ensure enhanced dynamic performance on and off the road, as well as safety and comfort, ushering in a new era of ruggedness, technology and peace of mind. For our customers it means confidence, driving pleasure, practicality and pride of ownership. “

Nissan Intelligent Mobility features include Intelligent Forward Collision Warning, which monitors the second vehicle ahead as well as the vehicle directly ahead to reduce the risk of multi-car accidents. Intelligent emergency braking activates the brakes to avoid collisions.

The smart peripheral vision monitor uses four cameras, which should make it easy to parallel park or position the vehicle when hitching up to a trailer. New to the system is an off-road monitor, which checks for surrounding obstacles at low speed when in four-wheel drive mode.

Nissan says its new Navara features several revisions, including exterior, interior and mechanical updates. The new bakkie will have a reinforced rear axle, increased payload capacity and a new step integrated into the rear bumper. A new steering rack has also been incorporated to improve steering response at low speeds.

For the first time for the Navara, Nissan will offer the PRO-4X grade, a style package. The PRO-4X model comes with its own athletic look, with a black emblem, front bumper with orange accents, black grille, door handles, luggage rack and running boards accented by 17-inch black wheels and off-road tires.

The new Navara will be produced at the Nissan South Africa plant in Rosslyn, Pretoria, and local sales will begin in April 2021.
