The body of a murdered young woman, found by community members at the Newtown A sports center in Inanda, has been identified by her mother.
On Monday, November 2, the police issued a statement saying that a murder investigation was underway: “Today at 7 am, community members found the body of an unknown woman of about 20 years on the Newtown A sports ground with throat slit and hands cut off, ”said Colonel Thembeka Mbele.

“A murder case was opened at the Inanda police station for investigation,” said Mbele, who urged anyone with information about the incident or the identity of the deceased to contact the local police or Crime Stop at 08600 10111.
Jessica Weyers was last seen on Sunday, November 1.
A South Africa Community Crime Watch (SACCW) Facebook post was widely circulated on social media.

On Thursday afternoon, police confirmed that the woman’s body found in Newtown A was that of Weyers.

Shortly before 2 pm today, the SAPS KwaZulu-Natal press center confirmed the identity of the victim.
“The deceased has been identified by her mother as Hillary’s 23-year-old Jessica Weyers,” Mbele said.
“Inanda police are investigating a murder case and no arrests have been made at this stage.”
