SA registers 1,241 new cases of Covid-19 when the death toll reaches 19,539

  • Another 1,241 new cases of Covid-19 have been reported in the country.
  • The Eastern Cape suffered the brunt of the deaths with nearly half of the 74 people who died as a result of the virus.
  • The death toll is slowly rising to 20,000, with the latest death toll at 19,539.

Another 1,241 new cases of Covid-19 have been reported in the country, Health Minister Zweli Mkhize said.

A statement describing the effects of the virus showed that the Eastern Cape recorded 35 deaths out of 74 new cases recorded.

Six people died in the Free State, eight in Gauteng, six in KwaZulu-Natal, eight in the North Cape and 11 in the Western Cape.

Of the 74 deaths reported Tuesday, 10 were reported to have occurred in the past 24 to 48 hours.

Four were in the Eastern Cape, one in the Free State, one in KwaZulu-Natal, and four in the Western Cape.

This brings the total number of deaths related to Covid-19 to 19,539.

Since the last report, 15,692 new tests have been performed.

The total number of cases detected is 728,836 and of these, 659,249 people have recovered.

South Africa is still in an official blockade, but less severe than some European countries and with fewer movement restrictions at the moment.
