Reports from Germany have revealed that the son of Orlando Pirates coach Josef Zinnbauer, Fabio, is fighting for his life in a coma, following a terrible car accident.

The accident reportedly occurred when the car Fabio was in, a Skoda, was partially crushed after colliding with a large truck.

Fabio, 24, is a footballer and had been playing in the lower divisions in Germany, most recently for Svg Steinachgrund in the Mittelfranken district league.

Coach Zinnbauer took many Pirates fans by surprise over the weekend when he revealed himself during his post-game interview following a 3-0 win in the MTN8 first leg semi-final over Kaizer Chiefs, who was about to run to the airport. to take a flight back to Germany to attend to a family problem.

Later, the pirates issued a statement clarifying their coach’s sudden departure:

“Unfortunately, out of respect for Mr. Zinnbauer and his family, we are unable to release anything other than to say that your son is in the hospital. The technician has asked that his family’s privacy be respected during this difficult time. He will be back soon. “

In the absence of Zinnbauer, the Pirates will be led by assistant coach Fadlu Davids, beginning Wednesday night with an away game at Bloemfontein Celtic.

After that, the Sea Robbers face the Chiefs in the second leg of the MTN8 semifinals, scheduled for Sunday afternoon at FNB Stadium.

The Buccaneers have gotten off to a slow start to their league campaign with draws against AmaZulu and Stellenbosch FC, but they seemed ready to improve after their big win over Amakhosi.

Zinnbauer came to the Pirates in December 2019, following the departure of former head coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic a few months earlier.

The 50-year-old German led the Soweto giants to a third place in the league and, with some good signings ahead of the current season, seemed keen to help the Bucs fight for honors.
