The Amakhosi coach believes that once the forward breaks his scoring duck, the goals will start to flow
Kaizer Chiefs coach Gavin Hunt says Khama Billiat should keep putting the team first and shouldn’t get too selfish in trying to break his scoring duck.
Billiat struggled for goals last season at Chiefs and while he finished the season with goals, it wasn’t enough to help Amakhosi win the league title.
This season with Hunt, the Zimbabwean has been upbeat but still hasn’t been able to find the net in all three games he has played in.
He probably could have had a pair in the Chiefs’ most recent game against Chippa United on Tuesday night, but in the end Amakhosi had to rely on an own goal from Chilli Boys defender Gregory Damons to secure a 1 win. -0.
Hunt says he understands Billiat’s situation, but is hopeful that he is on the brink of a potential scoring wave once he gets in first.
“He’s a bit frustrated. Any striker would be frustrated, you know, [Billiat] He didn’t score much in the last two games, ”Hunt told the media.
“He has to simplify his game a bit more, even in the second half he tried to be too smart. To be fair, in three games he has now had a good couple of chances. As long as you keep working hard, keep running without the ball, keep defending, keep doing the right things, keep playing.
“I think we have to break the ice with him. I think if you break the ice and could get a pair. I think he hit the post once or twice. In the second half he should have scored when he crossed the area and opened the entire goal ”.
The important thing, says Hunt, is that Billiat is not too obsessed with scoring and that he puts the team first.
“He is doing well, working hard. The team first, the second, that’s the most important thing. Can’t think of himself first, Saturday [3-0 defeat to Mamelodi Sundowns] he was trying to shoot from corner flags and things like that. That’s not acceptable, I told him. It will get there, whenever you buy, it will get there. “
