By now, it should be “old news” that Lewis Hamilton is the most successful Formula 1 driver in history in terms of race wins. The British rider claimed his 92nd career victory in Portugal last weekend, eclipsing the record he shared with Michael Schumacher for two weeks.
Hamilton started his career in 2007 and finished on the podium for the McLaren-Mercedes team in his first outing in the season-opening race in Australia. Several races later and he would win his first race at the Canadian Grand Prix, his first in what would become a record-setting race. Hamilton is also the first driver in the history of the sport to win a race in every season in which he competed, earning at least one victory.
Hamilton’s win rate is 35.11%, which translates to 92 wins in 262 races.

Behind Hamilton on the all-time win list is Schumacher, with 91 wins. Schumi recorded these victories throughout his first career, from 1991 to 2006, rewriting the record books and setting an almost impossible goal to beat. Schumacher is widely regarded as one of the best drivers to ever compete in F1, and his 14-year record was part of it.
Sebastian Vettel has won a total of 53 races, most of which occurred between 2010 and 2013 when he was driving for Red Bull. Vettel is no longer seen as the same driver who dominated the sport in those four seasons, and many believe his time has come. While driving for Ferrari, he nearly toppled Hamilton in the championship on more than one occasion, but mistakes and mistakes prevented that from happening. Vettel has won 14 of his 53 races with Ferrari, the team from which he will depart in late 2020.
The two remaining drivers in the top 5 list are Alain Prost and Ayrton Senna, who have won 51 and 41 races, respectively.
One of F1’s godfathers, Juan Manual Fangio, won a total of 24 races, placing him 11th on the all-time list.
