the Sports Department, through the minister Nathi Mthethwa, is pushing for plans to help form an interim board to Cricket South Africa (CSA) after the massive resignations this week.

The entire CSA board has now resigned with the exception of Zola Thamae, John Mogodi and Donovan May, who will remain temporarily to facilitate the handover to the new interim board which is expected to operate until at least the CSA AGM, which is understood to be it’s in December.

Mthethwa has been active in trying to clean up CSA’s administrative crisis for over a month since the Sports Confederation and the South African Olympic Committee (Sascoc) first got involved.

Mthethwa has made it clear that he has not been satisfied with the leadership at CSA and one of his expectations was that the entire board would be removed, which has now happened.

The Sports Minister had also expressed his intentions to intervene in the running of CSA and had given the organization until the close of business on Tuesday, October 27, to make written submissions on why that should not happen.

In a statement issued Wednesday morning, the Sports Department confirmed that Mthethwa had received such communication from CSA and that he had participated in a meeting for most of the day with the South African Cricket Players Association (Saca) and Sascoc.

“The meetings with Sascoc and Saca were aimed at sharing the results of the meeting with CSA in order to keep the main players up to date on the latest developments,” a statement read.

“The meeting with the CSA Council of Members was constructive and the Minister expressed his appreciation for their leadership.

“The next step is to finalize the details of an interim meeting and conclude with a list of names. More details will be announced later this week.”
