A new car theft scam was reportedly circulating, a vehicle tracking company said.
“Scammers pretending to work for Tracker are contacting vehicle tracking customers,” said a statement released by the company this week.
“They inform the customer that there is something wrong with their tracking device and that they should go out to repair or replace the device.”
The South African unions were reportedly using the new scam modus operandi.

The scammers had reportedly already targeted clients of various vehicle tracking companies.
The tracking company offered advice to its customers and other drivers to avoid being potential victims of scammers.
“If someone claiming to be from Tracker contacts you about repairs to their tracking device, ask them to guide you through the Tracker security verification questions associated with your account to verify the legitimacy of the call,” the statement read. .
In addition, he indicated that if the person speaking on the phone cannot do so, the customer or the possible victim of any other tracking company should inform them that they will have to call another person from the company to verify their claim.
