Ramaphosa debunks hard lock rumors

PARLIAMENT – President Cyril Ramaphosa said Tuesday that rumors of returning to alert level 3 are not true.

During a question and answer session between the president and the National Council of Provinces, Ramaphosa responded to rumors that the country will be subjected to another tough blockade.

“I don’t want people to be alarmed. That is simply not true. If it gets there, I will warn the nation.”

Ramaphosa said he received a report on Tuesday on the status of the infection but has yet to study it.

He said there are signs of concern, including super diffuser events.

The president said that the rumors of returning to alert level 3 are false and that if the situation changes, he will communicate it.

Ramaphosa said there are concerns that as the country moves into the holiday season, people will let their guard down.

He encouraged South Africans to respect preventive measures such as wearing masks, social distancing, and hand washing.
