New Delhi: Digital security provider Avast has said its security researchers discovered 21 adware game apps on Google’s Play Store and reported them to the tech giant for action.
Currently 19 of the apps are still available on the Play Store, but Google was investigating the report.
Similar to the adware applications reported by Avast in June and September, the adware is part of the HiddenAds family, displaying intrusive advertisements and enticing users to download the adware posing as gaming applications.
“Users should be vigilant when downloading applications to their phones and are advised to check the application profile, reviews and take into account extensive device permission requests,” said Jakub Vavra, threat analyst at Avast. .
The apps have been downloaded about eight million times so far according to estimates from SensorTower, a mobile app marketing knowledge and intelligence company.
Numerous user reviews on the Google Play Store mentioned that the apps captured their attention through ads on YouTube, promising a different game than the app finally offered.
After downloading, ads started flooding their phones.
Some of the games are: Shoot Them, Crush Car, Rolling Scroll, Helicopter Attack – NEW, Assassin Legend – 2020 NEW, Helicopter Shoot, Rugby Pass, Flying Skateboard and Iron, according to Avast.
