Former Highlands Park mentor Owen Da Gama has warned the public against a bogus interview about him on social media.
Da Gama became a trend on social media after he was accused of referring to the Mamelodi Sundowns trio of trainers of Manqoba Mngqithi, Rhulani Mokwena and Steve Komphela as a ‘fruit salad’ that he would not want to be a part of.
Da Gama was allegedly on the shortlist for a vacancy at Mamelodi Sundowns, however the sly comments circulating on social media left a sour taste for soccer fans in the country and former Bafana Bafana assistant coach. has provided clarity on this.
I didn’t say those words – Owen Da Gama
“This is not true, I did not say that. I congratulated Sundowns on the appointment of coaches Manqoba Mngqithi, Rhulani Mokwena and Steve Khompela. ” – Da Gama said to Kick-Off.
“This will bring continuity, stability and experience to the Sundowns team. I don’t know who comes up with these false sayings that I supposedly said. “
ODG pleased to see South African coaches prosper
While Da Gama may be unemployed after his departure from Highlands Park, the 59-year-old coach has expressed satisfaction that South African coaches are being given important roles in clubs.
Da Gama also expressed his joy for the South African coaches who took the international stage following the departure of Pitso Mosimane and Cavin Johnson to the Egyptian giants Al Ahly.
“Like my fellow South African coaches, I’m sure they will stick with it and go even further with Sundowns.” Da Gama added.
“To crown it, the historic movement of coaches Pitso Mosimane and Cavin Johnson shows how good our home coaches are. May God bless you all and give you prosperity. ”
Mamelodi Sundowns will be pleased with his performance in his first DStv Premiership match over the weekend. The pressure on Chloorkop will ease following his anticipated exit from MTN8 at the hands of Bloemfontein Celtic last weekend.
