Cape Town – A total of 891 new Covid-19-related cases have been identified in South Africa since the last report.
This brings the cumulative number of Covid-19 cases detected to 716,759, Health Minister Zweli Mkhize said in a statement on Monday.
Sadly, we are reporting 40 Covid-19 related deaths today: 8 in the Eastern Cape, 4 in Gauteng, 1 in KwaZulu-Natal, 4 in Mpumalanga, 16 in the Northwest and 7 in the Western Cape.
This brings the total number of deaths related to Covid-19 to 19008. Of the 40 deaths reported today, 10 were reported to have occurred in the last 24-48 hours: 2 from Eastern Cape, 4 from Gauteng, 1 from KwaZulu- Natal and 3 in the Western Cape, ”said Mkhize.
” Our recoveries now stand at 646,721, which translates to a 90% recovery rate. The cumulative number of tests performed to date is 4,709,403, with 11,464 new tests performed since the last report. ”
The parliamentary communications team said President Cyril Ramaphosa would answer six questions on Tuesday, including on Covid-19 corruption / procurement irregularities.
KwaZulu-Natal Prime Minister Sihle Zikalala has warned that another tough blockade could be imminent if people don’t change their reckless behavior.
He said the provincial government was “deeply concerned by the largely carefree attitude shown by some citizens of this province, particularly since our demotion to blockade level 1.”
