JOHANNESBURG – Defender Gerrie Nel from AfriForum’s private prosecution unit said the police report showed that Senzo Meyiwa was deliberately killed in a coup.

This follows the arrest of five suspects Monday morning for the murder of the soccer star.

The arrests come exactly six years after the murder in Vosloorus.

Nel said police agreed that Meyiwa was not killed in a robbery.

“And we agree that having reviewed the evidence that this is a success, we have also indicated our full cooperation to expose the mastermind and ensure that the mastermind is prosecuted as well.

He said the police had done a good job but that at least one more arrest was needed.

“They have not targeted the mastermind behind this murder and that must be the most important aspect in this matter and where possible we will help the South African Police Service and other role players to make sure it happens.”

Senzo Meyiwa’s brother, Sifiso, agreed that the mastermind should be arrested.

“I am still shocked by what I am hearing, but I would like to thank SAPS and AfriForum on behalf of the family for the progress in the case. Although we are grateful for the arrests made, we remain anxious that the mastermind has been unarrested. “.
