JOHANNESBURG – Police Minister Bheki Cele said Monday that they had not ruled out further arrests in the Senzo Meyiwa murder case.
Cele made the remarks at a press conference in Pretoria, where she gave an update on the protracted murder case.
The minister announced that five suspects were arrested in connection with the murder.
The soccer star was murdered in 2014 at the Vosloorus home of the mother of his then-girlfriend Kelly Khumalo.
Last week, it was leaked to the media that a weapon allegedly related to the murder had been found.

Even with the arrests made, Cele said investigations were ongoing.
“For us in the police service, it was always important to take the time and work hard on this case to ensure justice for Senzo Meyiwa. While six years have passed, we remain confident that these arrests are the beginning of a closure for Senzo Meyiwa’s family, friends and fans, as well as millions of South Africans, ”he said.
The minister said the murder was referred to the open cases unit, which finally made the breakthrough.
“These arrests are the result of an integrated multidisciplinary approach to this investigation, which is working closely with the director of the public prosecutor’s office,” said Cele.
