Cape Town – SAPS officers in Wolseley arrested a 33-year-old man in connection with the murder of three people, the SAPS in the Western Cape said Sunday.
The suspect was arrested by police officers after he was seen Saturday night “dragging something that turned out to be the body of a 20-year-old local woman” in the informal Pine Valley settlement in Wolseley, a spokesman for the SAPS of Western Cape, Brigadier Novela Potelwa said in a statement.
Community members alerted police officers to suspicious activity in the Pine Valley area after 11 p.m. Upon reaching the scene, the agents “made the shocking discovery.” The suspect, who also resides in the area, was later detained.
On Sunday, police were called back to the area where a passerby discovered a shallow grave in an open field.
With the help of forensic pathology services, the body of an as-yet unidentified woman was unearthed from the shallow grave. A new search of the area by the police led to the discovery of another grave not far from the first. A second body was discovered, whose identity, age and gender have yet to be determined.
SAPS crime scene experts, including members of the K9 unit, detectives and fingerprint experts, were on the scene until Sunday afternoon.
