Five people were killed in a multi-vehicle collision on the N2 near Ramsgate on the south coast of KwaZulu-Natal on Saturday afternoon.
Netcare 911 spokesman Shawn Herbst said the paramedic service responded to the accident around 5 p.m.
“Reports from the scene indicate that four vehicles were involved in a collision. Doctors evaluated the scene and found that four people had suffered fatal injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene, ”he said.
Two people were seriously injured and six other patients suffered minor to moderate injuries.
“Injured patients were treated at the scene and once stabilized they were transported by various ambulance services to the hospital for further treatment,” Herbst said.
The KwaZulu-Natal Private Ambulance Service confirmed that a fifth person died at the hospital.
“At the hospital one of the seriously injured patients deteriorated and, despite the efforts of the doctors, the patient was pronounced dead. The cause of the crash is unknown, but the authorities are investigating, ”he said.
