Prince William sought crucial advice from his father, Prince Charles, just before making a big decision in life, which turned out to be great for his relationship with Kate Middleton.
If it hadn’t been for Charles, William would never have dated Kate and the two may not have gotten married today.
According to royal historian Robert Lacey, William was fed up with his “boring” and mediocre life in college.
As a freshman at St. Andrews in Scotland, Will almost dropped out and considered moving to Edinburgh because he was so bored.
It was then that Prince Charles decided to have a serious conversation with his son about his educational prospects, as Lacey details in her new book. Battle of Brothers: William and Harry – The inside story of a family in Tumult.
According to Lacey, Will “had not anticipated how boring life could be in a small coastal town in Scotland.”
Later, Charles’s assistants got the older royal “to demonstrate a more fatherly backbone” and encourage his son to stay at St. Andrews.
The Prince of Wales sat William down for a pivotal talk, which has thus far shaped his future, and persuaded him to continue studying at the same university, something that led to the beginning of his relationship with Kate Middleton in the future.
On not being sure about studying at St. Andrews, William had previously shared: “I don’t think I missed home, I was more intimidated,” he said, according to Mirror.
“My father was very understanding about it and realized that I probably had the same problem as him. We chatted a lot and in the end, we both realized, I definitely realized, that I had to go back.”
