He was not among the scorers, but Sadio Mane starred tonight with Liverpool.
Jurgen Klopp’s side came back to beat Sheffield United 2-1 at Anfield, after Sander Berge put the visitors ahead 1-0 from the penalty spot.
Liverpool’s hero was rookie Diogo Jota, who headed home in the 64th minute to complete the comeback.
But the goal came through a moment of magic from Mane, who comfortably beat his score wide and lifted a wonderful cross, with his weaker foot, for Jota to connect.
Here’s how former Liverpool player Don Hutchison reacted to the goal on Twitter:
The hosts had an offside goal scored shortly before Jota’s goal, this time through Mo Salah.
This was quite a big test for Liverpool, given that Virgil van Dijk, their best center-back, won’t be around until next season.
Fabinho conceded a dubious penalty that Berge saved, but for the most part the Anfield team, who beat Ajax without Van Dijk midweek, did well and the more they do it, the stronger they will get.
