Man Utd boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has endorsed Mason Greenwood and insisted his professionalism is not an issue.
The England international has found himself in a bind lately. Along with Phil Foden, he was sent home after violating the COVID-19 guidelines on international obligations. The duo left the England bubble to meet two women at their team’s hotel.
Both players received a lot of criticism for their actions. But since then there have also been reports of Greenwood’s lack of discipline towards United.
They will come for the heroic Rashford … we must support him
The attacker has been left out of the squad of the day in recent games against Newcastle United and PSG.
Reports emerged that his absence was due to his poor timing. But Solskjaer downplayed this and suggested Greenwood was left out of the team because he suffered a minor injury.
Speaking during his press conference, quoted by The independent, Solskjaer defended the young forward:
“I’m not at all concerned about Mason becoming a target.
“He came in, he played fantastic, he played in the league for the first time against Tottenham and he was brilliant. He kicked and makes a mistake for England and suddenly the English press is after him.
“He is never late for training. I’ve seen some former United players talk about him and they don’t know what they’re talking about.
“He has a good family behind him and he is a good coach. I can’t believe all these stories about him not being a professional. That’s something we have to deal with with a lot of players, a lot of other United players have had it. “
