A student was stabbed after a fight broke out between two organizations at Limpopo University on Thursday.

According to police spokesman Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe, a 21-year-old student allegedly stabbed a 19-year-old student “with a sharp instrument” during the altercation.

“It is alleged that a conflict broke out between the two student organizations that ended with a physical fight … on Thursday, October 22,” Ngoepe said.

“The fight raged until campus security intervened and arrested the suspect.”

The victim was taken to hospital for medical treatment, he said.

Both the victim and the suspect brought charges against each other and will soon face assault cases in the Mankweng Magistrates Court.

The police investigation is ongoing.
