SOWETO – Jobs for sale, nepotism and widespread corruption are among the accusations made against the executive director of Bheki Mlangeni District Hospital, Ruth Mabyana.
Mabyana has been placed in precautionary transfer while investigations into her alleged misconduct continue.
The hospital, in Jabulani, Soweto, has been in the limelight after news broke that a 16-year-old psychiatric patient was raped at the facility.

A chilling message sent to a senior health official by an employee suggests that Bheki Mlangeni hospital management told staff who witnessed last week’s alleged rape to change their statements.
He claims that the management told them to say that a 16-year-old boy filed a complaint, in that way, the case would not be investigated because he is in psychological treatment.
The following message says that the incident is not the only violation at the facility.
Staff who spoke to eNCA on condition of anonymity described working at the facility as “working in hell.”
The staff member said, “Where is our safety? What do they say about the safety of other patients? There are pregnant women there, elderly people … What about their safety?”
“We are not safe in that hospital. Things happen there. People die while we watch. If two days go by without a death, it is luck.”
A patient admitted to the hospital after a car accident said psychiatric patients share the same emergency room.
He said he had to wait approximately 16 hours in the shared room before receiving medical assistance.
Sindi Makhoba said: “They would get up and walk all over the place without anyone restraining them. There was one who started fighting with the others. Taking people’s cards. They were there and there were many. There was no doctor or nurse helping, it was the people who took them to

Others have described acts of intimidation by Mabyana, who has now been subjected to a preventive transfer.
“Immediately, when you enter that hospital, the first thing you think about is to see where you step so that they do not punish you or fire you. We live in fear, that is a fact. Even our confidence is low, in a meeting you just sit there There. You are afraid to bring up an idea and they don’t like it… you will be victimized. You will be a project, “reported a staff member.
In May, Mabyana was suspended after a psychiatric patient allegedly stabbed an 85-year-old patient to death.
Gauteng Health Acting MEC Jacob Mamabolo has launched investigations for misconduct at the hospital
and another on the alleged rape of a teenager.
Gauteng Health Department Chief Communications Officer Motalatale Modiba said, “We would like to urge anyone who is not comfortable talking to internal teams to contact the SAPS or directly contact the MEC office to we can get to the bottom of this incident. “
Meanwhile, some in the community served by the hospital say they would rather die than be admitted to the facility.
