Cricket South Africa (CSA) has dismissed reports that Independent Director Dheven Dharmalingam resigned after a Membership Council directive as “inaccurate and inappropriate”.

CSA has confirmed that its Council of Members met on Thursday, October 22, 2020 to ‘discuss various matters, including what is best for cricket, as well as for the organization.’

According to a notice issued on cricket.co.za, the meeting was held to conduct an analysis of various scenarios that were put on the table by the Board, which met on Wednesday, October 21, 2020 to discuss the best way forward for the organization. and cricket.

Acting Chairman Beresford Williams and the other board members who are also members of the Membership Council reportedly withdrew from the Membership Council meeting in accordance with the CSA Code of Ethics, to allow for transparent discussions and confidential between the rest of the members. .

Dharmalingam has not resigned, insists CSA

CSA claims that no board member resigned on Thursday October 22nd and that media reports claiming that Dharmalingam had resigned are inaccurate and inappropriate.

“The Members Council deliberated on the different proposals presented by the Board. The Board had met previously and discussed various strategies that would better position CSA, one of these approaches was that if the Board were to resign in the best interest of CSA, the Board would then do so as it would be for the greater good of South African cricket.

“Dheven Dharmalingam submitted a letter to the Board of Directors indicating his willingness to resign, if the Membership Council believes it is in the best interest of cricket and the organization as a whole,” says Rihan Richards, member of the CSA Council of Members, who chaired the meeting in Williams’ absence.

“The story that currently exists was not officially corroborated by CSA and we again appeal to the media or any other interested party requiring information to contact us directly for accurate information. CSA will continue to work with our diverse stakeholders as an oversight body to ensure that cricket continues to receive the administrative support it needs to thrive in South Africa, ”concludes Richards.

The CSA has until Tuesday, October 27 to provide the Minister of Sport, Art and Culture, Nathi Mthethwa, with compelling reasons not to intervene in the federation.
