In denying Mahlamba bail, Van Rooyen said his girlfriend’s statement cast suspicion on him.
“There is evidence in the form of a statement taken from the bride that indicates that he was not at home when he woke up around 11pm and he came home around 4am on October 2.”
Van rooyen He said Mahlamba has to give some explanations about his whereabouts when he left his home in the middle of the night and returned early in the morning.
He said that when Mahlamba’s home was searched, two pairs of bloodstained pants were found along with a pair of muddy shoes.
“The defendant lied about the second shack where a pair of bloodstained pants was found in a freezer. He said it was closed and they didn’t search him in his presence. It raises suspicions that maybe he knew the pair of pants was hidden in the freezer, ”he said.
Van Rooyen said Mahlamba had the potential to interfere with the investigations, as he knows two of the witnesses in the matter.
“He knows that his girlfriend is a key witness in the matter and there is a possibility that he will try to influence her to change her statement,” he said.
Van Rooyen postponed the matter until December 1 for further investigation.
