Johannesburg – A 24-year-old woman was arrested and charged with being an accessory to rape for allegedly tying up her niece so that her boss could rape her.
According to the Johannesburg central police spokesman Captain Xoli Mbele, the crime took place in a shop in the Joburg business district where the arrested woman worked.
The alleged rapist fled after the incident and is still on the run.
Mbele said the 15-year-old is the daughter of the woman’s sister.
He said the information at his disposal was that on October 16, the teenager visited her aunt, who then asked her to bring her lunch to her workplace the next day.
When the teenager went there with the requested food, she was attacked by her aunt and her employer, who suddenly appeared and closed the door of the tuckshop.
“They dragged her into a back room inside the store where the aunt helped the male suspect by tying his hands and taping his mouth shut.
“He undressed her and saw her boss rape her.
“Once they finished, they released her. She called her mother who came to town to pick her up and they went to the police station where a case was opened, ”Mbele said.
The police spokesman said they only managed to arrest the woman on Tuesday because she was no longer working at the store, which appeared to have new owners.
The reason why the aunt helped the man rape his niece is not yet known.
Mbele said investigations were ongoing and the woman was expected to appear before the Johannesburg Magistrates Court.
