The Gauteng health department has given Ruth Mabyana, executive director of Bheki Mlangeni Hospital in Soweto, a “preventative transfer” amid a misconduct debacle in which she has been implicated.
“The CEO is allegedly involved in a misconduct case. Issues related to the case have yet to be verified and a determination will be made accordingly. The CEO has been transferred from the hospital,” said the Gauteng health department spokesman. , Kwara Kekana, in a statement.

Acting Gauteng Health MEC Jacob Mamabolo said the broader challenges at Bheki Mlangeni Hospital needed to be urgently resolved and community confidence in the facility’s ability to continue to provide healthcare services should be restored. so necessary.

Democratic Alliance MPL Jack Bloom has welcomed the move, saying it had raised questions about his ability to run the hospital six years ago.
“It has proven incapable of ensuring the safety of patients and staff, with at least 12 violent attacks this year, including the murder of one patient and the alleged rape of another.
“Other scandals during his tenure include paid jobs and substandard services that have given the hospital a bad reputation among Soweto residents.
“We have seen how she has recovered from previous suspensions before, so I hope she will finally be held accountable for years of mismanagement and permanently removed.”
Bloom said that Soweto residents deserved capable hospital management as it served a large number of patients and was intended to ease the tension at Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital.
The health department said it remained committed to improving the patient care experience at the Gauteng health facilities.
