JOHANNESBURG – Two cash-in-transit thieves who were on the lam for nearly four years on Wednesday were sentenced by the Polokwane High Court to a combined 285 years behind bars.

Boitumelo Aphane and Solly Monama were handcuffed in 2018 for committing a series of thefts of cash in transit in areas like Polokwane.

Both offenders were convicted of illegal possession of firearms, illegal possession of explosives, and robbery in aggravating circumstances.

The head of the Hawks, Lieutenant General Godfrey Lebeya, praised the investigation and prosecution team for their excellent work.

“These sentences will serve as a deterrent for other possible criminals who must know that the law will reach them. The community will be safer from the two receiving remedial lessons at Correctional Services facilities, ”said Lebeya.
