Deputy Auditor General Tsakani Maluleke.
- Parliament has recommended that Tsakani Maluleke be the next Auditor General.
- This is when the mandate of the incumbent, Kimi Makwetu, ends in November.
- All parties unanimously supported Maluleke for the position.
Deputy Auditor General Tsakani Maluleke was the “best of the best” candidate for the post of Auditor General and all parties in Parliament agreed that she should get it.
At a cordial meeting of an ad hoc committee dealing with the matter on Tuesday, all parties assured that Maluleke would replace incumbent Kimi Makwetu in December.
She was one of two women, out of eight people, shortlisted for the position.
ANC deputy Sifiso Buthelezi said that of all the shortlisted candidates who were subjected to a background check by the State Security Agency and approved, Maluleke was “the best of the best.”
“We are proposing that this committee accept that Ms. Tsakani Maluleke was the best of the best candidates we interviewed,” he added.
Kenny Morolong of the ANC said the process was credible and professional.
Wouter Wessels of FF Plus said: “Ms. Maluleke was, in my opinion, the most suitable candidate for the Office of the Auditor General. I also wish to support her as the candidate we recommend that she be appointed.”
Jan de Villiers, the district attorney, also supported his appointment.
“As an experienced Chartered Accountant, Ms. Maluleke has the public finance management and auditing experience, technical knowledge, and leadership skills to lead the vitally important Office of the Auditor General in an age when reliable audits of Government entities are more important than ever, “he said in a subsequent statement.

IFP head whip Narend Singh also agreed that Maluleke stood out as the best person for the job.
He has worked for various government agencies and the Eastern Cape Development Corporation, as well as large auditing and investment corporations.
Maluleke joined the Auditor General’s office as the national leader in audit services.
ANC committee chair MP Nokuzola Tolashe concluded the meeting by confirming that he recommended her for the position.
The committee will have to formally adopt the report before it is sent to the House for adoption.
Once it’s sealed, President Cyril Ramaphosa will have to make the appointment.
