Two men who allegedly killed farm manager Brendin Horner made an oral presentation and pleaded not guilty when they appeared in court on Friday morning.
Maleqhoa Sithole, the girlfriend of co-defendant Skwetja Mahlamba, spoke to TimesLIVE on Thursday afternoon before the court appearance and said Mahlamba had an alibi – he was with her the night he allegedly killed Horner.
Sithole also said that Mahlamba’s co-defendant, Sekola Piet Matlaletsa, was with them that night at the local Faku tavern, having a few drinks “I will continue to support him. I think he’s innocent. I was with him on Thursday night. “
The 21-year-old said when the police arrived at the tavern “It seemed like he wasn’t her initial target.”. She says the police arrested the co-defendants Matlaletsa first, when Mahlamba asked him what his friend had done and the police said “since you are his friend we are going with you too.”
The two men are rumored to be involved in the theft of shares in the community, a rumor Sithole said he was aware of. Police suspect Horner had run into the two defendants while trying to steal cattle.
Sithole’s mother, Madibuseng Tsoenyane, 44, run by Horner at Gilly Scheeper’s farm, spoke of Horner as a humble man who treated farm workers well.
