“In light of the Covid-19 pandemic and the extension of the National Disaster Management Law restrictions on the number of people allowed in a public gathering, it is important to stop the event for the safety of all who would be involved in the concert., “Member of the mayor’s committee for safety and security, said JP Smith.

Smith said the City, however, was considering hosting several smaller events as part of Cape Town’s CBD revitalization program, the first of which was scheduled to take place in Greenmarket Square this week.

“These events will be organized in accordance with national lockdown restrictions and current health and safety protocols,” he added.

These events were set up to revitalize the CBD’s economy going forward, the City said.

The City said it had to help the sector stop the economic decline due to the large number of jobs lost by supporting the event organizers.

The City said it would communicate with the public about the dates and locations of upcoming events.
