Male patient raped in Gauteng hospital

According to the DA Shadow Health MEC, Jack Bloom, the hospital was trying to cover up the incident.

“Two sources of mine from the hospital said that the hospital tried to cover up the incident by not recording it as a written complaint. They wanted it to be left as a verbal complaint,” Bloom said.

Bloom said this followed other recent rapes at the Charlotte Maxeke Hospital in Johannesburg, the Tara Mental Hospital and the Stanza Bopape Clinic in Tshwane.

Bloom said there were concerns among hospital staff that the hospital administration covered up the incident.

“This is the eleventh violent case at Bheki Mlangeni Hospital since the beginning of the year.

“However, the executive director of the hospital, Ruth Mabyana, was allowed to return to her post despite being on pre-trial suspension while the murder investigation continues,” said Bloom.

Bloom said the hospital was in dire need of new management.

He also said the hospital urgently needed to dedicate high security where mentally ill patients are admitted and concerned.
