More Gumbi, Lucious Mbiza, Cosmos Chikayatadza allegedly used a firearm to rob a motorist on the R80 around Rosslyn on September 12, while Chikayataza also worked with the fourth suspect, Norest Sigaule, to steal another motorist’s belongings. and firearm on August 26.
The court is still waiting for police to verify the addresses of the suspects who claimed to be Hercules residents in Pretoria West and Marabastad, before they return to court to submit their request for bail on October 26.
The prosecution indicated that the National Prosecutor’s Office indicated that it will also seek to verify whether the suspects legally reside in South Africa or not, before their bail requests can be heard.
A lawyer who asked not to be named said that people in north Tshwane were tired of criminals hiding around the R80 highway and in the mountains to attack unsuspecting motorists, cyclists and pedestrians.
She said they have come together and will take steps to raise awareness and help incarcerate criminals lurking in these critical areas. She said it was time for these people to be set apart from the rest of good society.
The court will also prosecute the suspects for allegedly assaulting a man who was with his family, pulling them out of the car and assaulting them.
Court documents indicate that the suspects used stones to attack the victims. One of the survivors indicated last week when people blocked the road that he too was hit with a stone on the head while urinating.
He said they then dragged him into the bushes, stabbed him and robbed him. He thought he was lucky to get out alive since they left him on the ground with wood on his head, which indicates that they wanted to burn him but the noises of the motorcyclists made the assailants flee the place.
