One person was seriously injured when an angry crowd set property and cars on fire after a Sangoma accused a businessman and his employees of being involved in the disappearance of a 25-year-old man.

According to the police, Maluleka was reported missing on August 8.

Police spokesman Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo said the mob cornered one of the businessman’s 52-year-old employees before meeting at a local soccer field at around 08:00 on Sunday.

“They attacked him, burned him and dragged him to the house of the businessman’s mother, where they set it on fire, along with three vehicles that were parked inside the garage,” Mojapelo said.

They then moved to the businessman’s residence, where they dumped his two-story house, damaging the electric fence and some properties.

“The angry mob continued the attack and set fire to the house of the other 51-year-old employee.”

As they drove to the brick yard owned by this businessman, they came across one of his vehicles and set it on fire.

The driver managed to escape unscathed.

Mojapelo said that when the police arrived, the crowd had already set the brick patio on fire.

“The seriously injured victim was rescued and taken to hospital with serious injuries.”

Twenty-three people have been arrested for attempted murder, arson, and intentional damage to property.

“The search for the remaining suspects continues today,” Mojapelo added.

Provincial Police Commissioner Lt. Gen. Nneke Ledwaba said nothing would be left to chance in pursuing the remaining culprits.
