The Tax Service of South Africa (SARS) has warned individual taxpayers who wish to file their personal income tax return at a SARS branch that the last day to do so is Thursday (October 22).

These taxpayers should remember to first make an appointment to see a SARS branch consultant due to the Covid-19 restrictions that still apply.

Taxpayers can book their appointment through the link which is on the SARS website. Taxpayers can also ask a SARS agent for help by calling 0800 117 277, the tax collector said.

However, taxpayers who use the electronic channel, eFiling, will have until November 16, 2020 to file their personal income tax return online. Provisional taxpayers who file electronically through eFiling have until January 29, 2021.

To further help taxpayers who file their returns at our branches, SARS has extended the hours of operation of its branch until Thursday, October 22: on weekdays the SARS branches will open from 08:00 to 18:00 .

Taxpayers who wish to file their return at a branch must bring all relevant supporting documents, such as:

  • Green barcode identification or driver’s license;
  • Proof of residence, bank statement no more than three months;
  • Proof of income / payroll / IRP5;
  • Tax certificates.
