JOHANNESBURG – A Free State businessman (33) is expected to appear today in Senekal Magistrates Court after being handcuffed on Friday.

He is the second suspect arrested in connection with the violence that erupted earlier this month during the court appearance of two men accused of murdering 21-year-old Brendin Horner.

He joins farmer Andre Pienaar charged with public violence, arson and malicious damage to property for violent uproar in court.

Legal proceedings were interrupted and a police vehicle overturned and caught fire.

Police Vish Naidoo said: “We arrested a 33-year-old suspect, the second suspect, in connection with the case of public violence in Senekal that took place on 6 October. He is expected to appear before the Senekal Magistrates Court on charges of public violence, malicious damage to property and of course, depending on how the investigation progresses, more charges will likely be added. ”

Meanwhile, Pienaar was released on bail Monday by the Free State Superior Court after the magistrates court dismissed his application.
