Health Minister Zweli Mkhize tests positive for Covid-19

Health Minister Zweli Mkhize says the second wave issue cannot be ruled out.

Zweli Mkhize revealed that his wife, Dr. May Mkhize, also tested positive for Covid-19.

Health Minister Zweli Mkhize announced Sunday that he and his wife, Dr. May Mkhize, have tested positive for Covid-19.

In a statement, Mkhize said that they began to show mild symptoms and that he felt abnormally exhausted during the day. They decided to get tested on Saturday.

Describing his symptoms, the minister said that his wife had a cough, was dizzy and extremely exhausted.

“Given his symptoms, the doctors advised that he go into observation and rehydration. Our close contacts in the last week have been some of our family members and some of my team from the Ministry of Health. We have informed them and advise them to immediately isolate themselves in their homes and get tested.

“I am now self-quarantined at home and both my wife and I remain optimistic that we will make a full recovery from this virus.”

Mkhize advised people to keep wearing masks, adhere to health protocols, wash and disinfect their hands.

“As a country, we have made significant progress in our fight against this pandemic. We dare not back down. Whatever we do and wherever we go, we must bear in mind that there is a risk of a second wave, “he said.

He concluded that he will use this quarantine period to rest and recharge.

This is a developing story.
