CAPE TOWN – The City of Cape Town has appealed to the public to come forward and report any information about an attack on firefighters in Kraaifontein.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday.
Members of the Brackenfell crew were dispatched to Wallacedene in the early hours of yesterday morning after receiving a call about a fire in the community.
Upon arrival, two officials made their way between the structures to investigate the source of smoke they were seeing.
They were then approached by three men who threatened them at gunpoint and stole their belongings.
The firefighters were attacked and had to be taken to hospital for treatment.
JP Smith from the city said it turned out to be an ambush as there was no structural fire as reported.
“The city appeals to anyone with information to report it to the public emergency communications center by dialing 021 480 7700 from a cell phone or 107 from a land line.”
