A 30-year-old Gauteng traffic police officer from the Special Patrol Unit was allegedly shot twice by a motorist on Friday morning in Alberton.

“The incident took place at Corner Ring Road and Voortrekker Street when the motorist failed to stop for a red robot and the officer instructed him to stop.

Gauteng traffic claimed that the motorist fired and sped.

The officer is currently stable and receiving medical attention at the hospital.

The Gauteng traffic police condemned the incident and asked the officers to be cautious in carrying out their duties.

“The Gauteng Traffic Police will not be deterred from enforcing the rules and regulations of the road,” said spokesman Seal Maremane.

“The Gauteng Traffic Police will not rest until the perpetrator is brought to the book to face the full power of the law.”
