Cape Town – A 66-year-old woman was killed and a 72-year-old man is in critical condition in hospital after an apparent home invasion by unknown assailants at Marina da Gama in Muizenburg in Cape Town in the early hours Saturday morning.
ER24 spokesman Ross Campbell said in a statement that ER24 paramedics arrived at the scene at 4.33am, along with emergency medical services (EMS) from the Cape Town Metro, where officers from the Cape Town Police Service South Africa (SAPS) directed them to the body of a woman. in the kitchen of the residence.
“She had suffered stab wounds to the head and back and showed no signs of life. She was pronounced dead upon arrival,” he said.
The man was found lying outside on the side of the house, having suffered a gunshot wound to the abdomen. He was in critical condition and was treated with advanced life support interventions by Metro EMS before being transferred to a private hospital for additional care.
ER24 paramedics were unaware of the circumstances surrounding the incident, but SAPS officers at the scene were investigating, Campbell said.
In an unrelated incident at Vereeniging in Gauteng, a man, believed to be between 35 and 40 years old, was shot and killed in an alleged robbery-related shooting Friday afternoon, Campbell said.
ER24 paramedics arrived at the scene at 5.47 pm and found the man lying in the veld next to a store. “He had suffered a fatal gunshot wound and was pronounced dead upon arrival. The store owner was found to have sustained minor injuries and was treated and taken to hospital for additional care.”
ER24 paramedics were also unaware of the exact details surrounding the incident and SAPS officers were on the scene to conduct further investigations, he said.
