Standing next to the Democratic presidential candidate as he spoke was Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, a fierce critic of Trump who was recently found to be the target of a well-planned kidnapping plot by a heavily armed right-wing militia.

“Make no mistake, that’s what you are, domestic terrorists,” Biden told a group of about 20 guests and reporters in the town of Southfield.

“It was the kind of behavior that you would expect from ISIS. It should shock the consciences of all Americans. All Americans, and the failure to convict these people is staggering,” Biden said.

In a tweet on October 8 when the plot was made public, Trump did not express sympathy for the governor.

“Instead of thanking, he calls me a white supremacist,” Trump complained.

“I do not tolerate ANY extreme violence,” he insisted.

Trump also angered many Americans during the first debate with Biden on Sept. 29 when he refused to denounce white supremacist groups and instead, when speaking to the right-wing nationalist group Proud Boys, said “back off and wait.”

The group celebrated its mention by the president by adopting those words as part of a new logo.

Two days later, under pressure to explain himself, Trump said that he in fact condemned all white supremacists.
