RONALD KOEMAN has given Antoine Griezmann a verbal reprimand amid reports of a fight between the pair.
The Camp Nou coach responded to the France star after the attacker hinted that he was dismayed to play a three-man behind Lionel Messi.
Barcelona, currently eighth in LaLiga, face Getafe tonight in their fourth game of the season after their surprise 1-1 draw against Sevilla.
And Koeman, 57, who criticized Griezmann for missing two high-level opportunities in that match, let reporters know that the responsibility for the team’s formation rests solely with him.
Before the Getafe game, the Dutchman told reporters: “I decide based on what is best for the team.
“The coach is in charge and the players must be at their best when they play.
“I have spoken with Antoine and I have told him that I seek the best for the team. I think it is more effective right for us.
“He can play in three positions. He could also play as a number 10 or a number 9.
“In fact, when I was the Netherlands coach, in a game against France, he played on the right against us, which is the same in Barcelona.
“I have no problem with Antoine. I can only play with one player in each of the three attacking positions. I don’t play with any player out of position.
“If you have another position that you like better, that’s the situation, but we can’t have 10 players in the same role.”
The 29-year-old Griezmann, who has yet to score for Barcelona this season, is said to have aimed some veiled spikes at Koeman while he was off international duty with France.
And the Frenchman was on target for his country to score in their 2-1 win against Croatia playing in their preferred role of No. 10 during the Nations League clash.
Speaking about France, coach Didier Deschamp Griezmann said: “The coach knows where to put me.
“I take advantage of this situation, this place, the confidence of the coach and my teammates.”
Griezmann, 29, was among several Barcelona superstars strongly linked to an exit from Camp Nou, following the club’s financial struggles in the wake of the Covid-19 crisis.
The French ace, who completed a £ 108m transfer to Barça from Atlético de Madrid last year, scored nine goals in 35 La Liga appearances last season.
