The bodies of three men were found after their boat washed ashore at Kleinmond.
The National Maritime Rescue Institute (NSRI) responded to a report of a rigid-hull inflatable boat washed ashore along the shoreline, about four kilometers from Kleinmond on Saturday morning.
The ship is suspected of capsizing overnight, NSRI Kleinmond station commander Schalk Boonzaaier said.
“A search was launched at sea and off the coast for what were initially believed to be four missing men,” Boonzaaier said.
The ship was found stranded on the beach and it was confirmed during the search that three men, from Hawston, had been on board.
The body of one of the men was found on the beach near the boat, Boonzaaier said.
“NSRI rescue swimmers got into the waves in that same neighborhood and, while rescue swimmers were conducting search efforts for sweep lines on the surf line, the rescue craft continued on a search at sea.
“During [the search], the bodies of the two remaining disappeared were located and recovered. ”
The bodies were identified as those of the men reported missing.
The police have opened an investigation file.
