This brings South Africa’s Covid-19 death toll to 18,370 and infections to more than 700,203.

In South Africa, new infections are slowing down in the country, but Mkhize again warned of the dangers of a second wave on Monday, urging people to continue social distancing and wearing masks.

He said Monday that the second wave would come if people were complacent and didn’t wear masks and practiced social distancing.

The Health Department said it had now screened more than 4.4 million people in the public and private sectors, with nearly 24,000 tests performed in the last 24 hours.

The death toll from coronavirus in South Africa now stands at 18,370.

Of the last 61 deaths, Mkhize said the majority of those killed came from the Free State.

“We extend our condolences to the loved ones of the deceased and we thank the healthcare workers who treated the deceased patients,” Mkhize said.
