Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has revealed that he sent a “long, long” text message to his players after their humiliating 7-2 loss to Aston Villa.
Klopp suffered the biggest loss of his coaching career on a traumatic afternoon at Villa Park earlier this month.
The shocking performance of the Premier League champions ended their undefeated start and exposed defensive failures that were already visible this season.
Most of Klopp’s squad headed for international service immediately after the defeat and the German decided to clear things up in a text message to his stars.
“The night after the game was not the best night of my life, but I got up in the morning and knew I had to talk to my guys, but they weren’t here,” Klopp told the BBC on Thursday.
“I texted them long, very long. It was more or less my thoughts about what had happened and after that I felt so much better because it was discarded and from then on we were able to continue and that’s what we did.”
Klopp will hope his message will have the desired effect when Liverpool return to action this weekend for the first time since Villa’s embarrassment.
The Reds make the short trip through Stanley Park to face Everton in the Merseyside derby on Saturday.
