JOHANNESBURG – The South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) called on Friday for calm in the Free State city of Senekal, where members of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) and the African National Congress (ANC) were protesting along with people from the group of pressure AfriForum and local farmers.

Racial tensions have been high in Senekal since the assassination of local agricultural administrator Brendin Horner earlier this month.

The body of the 21-year-old was found hanging from a pole in Paul Roux, where he worked.

Two men arrested for her murder were due to return to the pier on Friday.

There was increased security outside the field on Friday after the chaotic scenes that unfolded last week during his last appearance when farmers broke into the building and set fire to a police vehicle.

Chris Nissen of the commission called on all groups in Senekal to protest peacefully: “We are calling for a situation where people must remember that the court case must continue and that the law must run its course and that we cannot continue to polarize the Society and political parties must not exploit the situation, but we cannot allow criminality to continue. And, therefore, it is very important to sit at the table together, as the commission will discuss a way forward ”.

Earlier on Friday, the EFF members could be heard singing “Dubula,” which means “to shoot.”
