Capitec has added the EasyEquities investment platform to its new banking app, enabling clients to invest in equities in the South African and US equity markets.

The bank said clients will get a 20% discount on brokerage fees when using the new widget and will pay zero data costs when accessing the widget, as Capitec’s app has a zero rating for data.

Customers can access EasyEquities from the latest version of their banking app by clicking on the ‘explore’ tab and then navigating to ‘widgets’.

The partnership provides greater accessibility to a variety of investment options, in an affordable and streamlined way, said Francois Viviers, Capitec’s Marketing and Communications Executive.

“We currently have more than 4 million app clients, who will now be able to invest not only in leading South African companies, but also those based in the US, a unique feature not offered by traditional brokers,” Viviers said. .

Existing EasyEquities customers can easily login and link their accounts. New clients can go through the registration process and then start investing, Viviers said.

“By giving South Africans easy access to investment, we can help shift investment behavior in the right direction. EasyEquities is perfect for first-time investors, as it offers a demo account, which can be used to familiarize yourself with the markets that interest you, before investing real money, ”said Viviers.

EasyEquities is a qualified broker with the IRS, which simplifies opening a US investment account and lowers the cost of trading US stocks, said Charles Savage, CEO of EasyEquities.

“Our EasyFX feature allows you to convert rands to dollars within the platform and then use them to purchase US stocks,” Savage said.
