JOHANNESBURG – Gautrain has announced that the strike of workers affiliated with Numsa has ended after an agreement on a 4.1% wage increase.

Operations were interrupted for more than two weeks, and union-affiliated workers demanded an 8% raise.

After the talks stalled, Numsa and Bombela, the company that operates the Gautrain, escalated the negotiations to the CCMA.

Gautrain spokesman Kasagee Nayger said normal train services would resume on Friday.

“We are pleased to report that the strike that began on October 5 has ended. Numsa and Compañía Operadora Bombela, with the support of the CCMA, have found a way to back the company’s 4.1% offer, with employees in the lower pay bands they are better protected at this difficult time. “

Numsa, in a statement, said the increase would be retroactive to July 1.
