Peterson and Nange training with Kaizer Chiefs – Report

Amakhosi’s new coach, Gavin Hunt, is considering adding several of his former players

The Kaizer Chiefs are potentially lining up two new signings in former Bidvest Wits duo Brandon Peterson and Phathutshedzo Nange.

According to a report from SoccerLaduma, the two players began training with the Glamor Boys this week.

Another former Wits man, Sifiso Hlanti, has also been involved in the Chiefs’ preseason training program.

Of course, it is not surprising to see an exodus of former Wits players arriving in Amakhosi, following the club’s appointment of former Clever Boys mentor Gavin Hunt as their head coach.

The mill was bought by second division team Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila (TTM) in June of this year. The agreement did not stipulate that Wits players would automatically join TTM and some have chosen to request their clearance to become free agents.

However, the issue of Wits players potentially joining Chiefs is compounded by the fact that Soweto’s side is in the midst of a two-window ban from FIFA, which they are in the process of appealing.

Meanwhile, the Chiefs were unable to sign players like Thabang Monare, Thulani Hlatshwayo, Deon Hotto and Terrence Dzvukamanja, all of whom have joined archrivals Orlando Pirates.

If the club gets the green light to sign new players, Hlanti would certainly be a huge asset as a left back, a position the Chiefs have struggled to fill for the past two seasons.

Peterson, a former Ajax Cape Town goalkeeper, would provide backup to veteran goalkeepers Itumeleng Khune and Daniel Akpeyi.

Nange was previously hired by Hunt from Black Leopards and would provide more options in midfield for the new Glamor Boys head coach.
